APA acknowledges that traffic patterns and transportation delays are unavoidable and beyond our control. When purchasing multiple tickets for mobile workshops and tours please allow a cushion of time between the arrival time of one workshop/tour the departure time of another workshop/tour.
Expansion of passenger rail to the City of Reading along the Schuylkill River Corridor is an issue of providing adequate transportation along a viable passenger rail corridor that also concerns economic development and transportation equity. This mobile workshop provides a visual tour of this plan to link underserved populations to the national rail network and act as a springboard for economic development. Possible disruptors are the freight line the passenger line must share, and coordination with the Amtrak operator. Further challenges include locating the train stations, continued coordination with the three sponsoring counties: Berks, Chester and Montgomery; the City of Reading; and the Boroughs of Pottstown and Phoenixville.
Learning Objectives:
Visualize the need to relieve traffic congestion along the Schuylkill River Corridor.
Discuss the success of establishing an authority to restore passenger rail service to Reading.
Review the history of the Reading Railroad and understand how passenger rail will be an economic engine for the Schuylkill River Corridor.
