Visit three development projects that have each become focal points of Wilmington's efforts to revitalize Delaware's only city over 50,000 in population. First we will visit REACH Riverside, a “purpose-built" community intended to revitalize the northeast side of Wilmington by rebuilding the area with direct community involvement. Then after a short tour through the downtown, we will visit the Riverfront Development Corporation which represents a 30 year effort primarily driven by the current mayor to rebuild a vacant former industrial area into an active mixed-use Riverfront. And finally we will visit the historic Little Italy neighborhood where West Side Grows Together has taken on their own community-driven public health focused effort toward revitalizing their neighborhood with a variety of efforts including the redevelopment of affordable housing. This tour is intended to highlight how different approaches can all be successful when it comes to neighborhood revitalization.
