This course is meant to review the very basic techniques in understanding the technology and formation of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) and the Stereo-Electroencephalogram (SEEG) waves, addressing the fundaments of each type of study and their clinical applications, ending with the more advanced techniques for epileptogenic zone localization using HFOs and Spike source analysis. Speakers are nationally and internationally renowned on these topics with a vast trajectory in education and research in the presented areas. There will be topics for every level of training and practice within epilepsy!

Learning Objectives:

Understand how the EEG waves are formed and their differences between surface and invasive recording.
Determine when a surface EEG or an invasive exploration is needed
Be able to recognize normal from abnormal patterns in both, surface and invasive traces.
Appreciate the procedure and utility of the Spike source and the High-Frequency Oscillation (HFO) analysis in identifying the epileptogenic zone, and how they could help in epilepsy surgery planning.
