Novel technologies may advance our field dramatically, or prove a flash in the pan. This course aimed at a general neurosurgical and neurological audience discusses selected recent and more established technologies, considering what has proven to be useful, what might be worth thinking twice about, lessons learned during implementation, and future potential. Specific topics include robotics, 5-ALA, spinal technologies, and EEG techniques.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the current state of robotics in neurosurgery and potential future applications.
At the end of this session, participants will understand the clinical utility of 5-ALA in glioma management, its benefits and limitations.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to demonstrate improved cultural competence with regards to Black hair, its cultural and physiological differences, and novel methods to improve EEG recording in Black patients.
At the end of this session, participants will appreciate the history of advances in spinal surgery technology and be able to describe the evidence-based outcomes of various devices.
