CSC Sandra Black Lecture | Dr Eric Smith - Small Vessels Cause Big Problems: Advances in Understanding the Pathophysiology of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Cerebral small vessel disease causes about 25% of all strokes and 25% of dementia. Yet its causes and progression remain poorly understood, and there are few specific treatments. However, thanks to new basic science methods and innovative human neuroimaging techniques we are developing a deeper understanding of the progression of cerebral small vessel disease, including potentially treatable pathways to reduce the risk of stroke and dementia. This lecture will provide a modern overview of the pathophysiology and management of cerebral small vessel disease based on recent discoveries.
