This course will look back at what we knew about glaucoma "then" - how we made the diagnosis, and how we treated it - and will look at how far we've come since those early days of optometric involvement in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. The course will present the latest diagnostic tools and treatment options - medications, laser, and surgical advances that have changed the way we manage glaucoma now.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Understand the newest concepts about the pathophysiology of glaucoma
Describe the risk factors associated with glaucoma and progression of the disease in order to better assess patient risk
Develop a systematic strategy for evaluating the optic nerve, visual field, and OCT specific to the diagnosis of glaucoma
Acquire a framework for stepped medical, laser, and surgical intervention beyond first line drug therapy for open angle glaucoma.
Improve their ability to detect progression of glaucoma and to escalate therapy using all available tools including medication, laser, and surgical intervention
Gain insight into the newest classification and management decisions related to angle closure glaucoma and angle closure spectrum patients.
