The focus of this course is to identify pre-screening techniques performed in a routine examination. A discussion will take place on the purpose behind each test and how to perform them. There will be a demonstration and practical evaluation for attendees. Each attendee will perform and those demonstrating at least 10 within the standard will receive a certificate of completion.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
1. Teach the importance of prescreening techniques for the prescreening tests
2. Demonstration and performance techniques for the following:
a. Case Histories
b. Drop Instillation
c. Soft Contact lens Insertion and Removal
d. Cover/Uncover tests
e. Pupillary response
f. Visual Acuities / Pinhole / Plus lens
g. Pachymetry
h. Amsler Grid
i. Color Vision Testing
j. Handwashing
3. Explain the purpose behind each pre-screening technique
4. Identify when tests are to be administered
5. Each technique will be demonstrated by the instructor
6. The importance of test accuracy will be reviewed
7. The importance of proper documentation and how to correctly document each test will be discussed
8. Learn how to gain patient cooperation
9. Each participant’s technique will be graded as go/no go to verify tests are accomplish in accordance with national standards
