Biography
Barry E. Santini is a Certified Master Optician by the American Board Of Opticianry. His is also a credentialed Ophthalmic Optician by the Society to Advance Opticianry (SAO). Barry is President of Long Island Opticians, a retail optical store located in Seaford, New York. This business traces its origin to an optical business originally started by his optician father, Alfred E. Santini, in the 1950s.
Barry is a nationally known speaker, writer, blogger and social media poster, and is presently a contributing editor to 20/20 Magazine. With over 49 years experience, Barry is an expert on dispensing, fabrication, optics, rimless processing, as well as optical business and practice management.
In addition to his duties as a professional ophthalmic optician, Barry worked 28 years as a part-time product consultant for Tele Vue Optics of Chester, New York. Tele Vue Optics is a high-end maker of advanced astronomical eyepieces, refracting telescopes and imaging accessories. Tele Vue Optics was founded by optical designer Al Nagler, who led the team who designed the Gemini, Apollo and Lunar Landing simulators for NASA during the heyday of the US Space Program. Barry learned his deep knowledge of geometrical optics helping Mr. Nagler design and test optical products during his time consulting with Tele Vue Optics.
A NYS licensed ophthalmic optician and certified NYS Contact Lens fitter, Barry received his ABOM from the American Board of Opticianry in 1994. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the NYS Society of Opticians. In 2016, Barry was awarded "Optician of the Year" from the Society to Advance Opticianry (SAO). He received Certified Visual Assessment Specialist designation from the SAO in 2021. Barry is on the advisory board for the ophthalmic dispensing department of New York City College of Technology.
