Concussion is a “new” area that optometry is ideally suited and trained for. In fact, optometrists could be considered THE authority for evaluation and management. This course will cover the pre-concussion evaluation, grading of concussions, and methods of dealing with post-concussion patients. Previous head trauma is not required (nor administered), but if you have had a concussion, you are especially welcome.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Discriminate various parts of the brain, where, and how concussion does it’s damage
Recognize symptoms of concussion & conduct various optometric testing to aid in diagnosis of concussion
Recognize various methods of treatment to solve patients concussion related complaints
Develop a pre-concussion profile on a patient as a baseline
Assess the level of improvement a patient with concussion is experiencing
Recommend various methods of therapy to implement to aid recovery for a concussion patient.
