Binocular Vision Dysfunction or BVD disrupts daily activities from reading, driving, and learning and can even be debilitating. Treatment using relieving prisms is commonly used to for esophoria, vertical heterophoria, and divergence insufficiency. However, exophoria, convergence excess, convergence insufficiency, and divergence excess are best treated using a combination of ophthalmic lenses and vision therapy. This course explores binocular vision and treatment options including ophthalmic lenses with prism and vision therapy.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Define and describe normal binocular vision and binocular vision dysfunction (BVD)
Describe the relationship between corresponding retinal points, image size, and shape and
the implications of ophthalmic lenses on binocular vision
Identify binocular vision dysfunction symptoms
Describe treatment options (i.e. prism lenses with base direction and vision therapy)
