KM Lead, Business Process Management Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney is an aerospace engine manufacturer with many diverse and complex Knowledge Management (KM) requirements. In this session, we will share Pratt & Whitney Operations’ KM Framework, based on objectives of the P&W Operating System and the APQC KM Framework. This framework provides goal alignment, structure and capabilities. We will explore elements, outcomes and methods in the application of these objectives. For the goal alignment objective, we will discuss how we align strategy through the company's Must Do's. For the structure objective, we will include the following KM Content Management tools: central document repository; document type decision tree; and document library structure. For the capabilities objective, we will discuss the interactions of people, processes, and technology.
Learning Objectives:
Goal Alignment Objective includes:
1. Apply governance that drives common processes, common roles, common tools, and common language.
2. Provide consistency with standard work templates and criteria to enhance KM practice and execution.
3. Verify content through Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) using the PCF Process Inventory RACI for ownership.
Structure Objective includes:
1. OpsWorks: Improves customer search and maximize access to existing knowledge assets and enhances structure to drive visual management
2. KM Decision Tree: Clarifies knowledge assets and supports categorization
Capabilities Objective includes:
1. Leverage the foundations of KM and PM/PCF to create a comprehensive KM Process to drive maturity.
2. Create a KM skill development plan, identify gaps, and close requirements.
