This paper proposed a novel single stage AC-DC bidirectional converter based on series resonant dual-active-bridge (SR-DAB) power stage topology for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with operation principle, control optimization and experimental results. A combination of GaN based AC half bridge structure and two center-tap circuits makes the converter suitable for low voltage high current battery charging / discharging. The proposed converter employs dual-phase-shift (DPS) and variable-friquency (VF) for achieving zero-voltage switching along AC line frequency and ensuring power factor correction (PFC) function. Tabular dimension with high power density enables stackable BESS potential.
