Airán Francés obtained his industrial engineering degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 2012. Subsequently, he participated as a researcher in the European XFEL project, where he was in charge of the design, prototyping, testing and documentation of 250 power supplies for superconducting magnets that are part of a particle accelerator. In 2014 he started his PhD in electrical and electronic engineering at UPM, which he defended in December 2018, with a grade of outstanding Cum Laude.
His line of research includes modeling and black-box stability analysis of power electronic converters for smart grids, considering the nonlinearities present in these systems. During his PhD he has participated in several national projects and has been the principal investigator in 1 project of the ETSII-UPM. He has done a 3-month international stay at the University of Aalborg, Denmark, under the supervision of Prof. Josep María Guerrero.
