Dr. Rui Sun is a technical manager and power systems specialist with Goldwind Technology. Rui received his B.S. degree from Southeast University, Nanjing, China, the M.S. degree from Clemson University, Clemson, SC and the Ph.D. degree from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, USA. He used to work in the transmission planning and special studies area with Dominion Energy Virginia Power and Pacific Gas & Electric. Rui joined Goldwind Technology in 2021 as a power system specialist and currently leads GW’s grid interconnection team for global market. His research interests include renewable and sustainable energy, grid interconnection, strategic planning, power system and electronics modeling, geomagnetic storm and mitigation, and blackstart system restoration study, etc. Rui used to serve as a team member in NERC TPL-007 Geomagnetic Disturbances standard drafting team and an observer in NERC MOD-26/027 generation model validation standard modification team. He also participates in several IEEE and NERC working group and task forces, including GMDTF, CFWG, and REWG.
