Ramandeep Narwal is a Ph.D. student in the research group of Prof. Subhashish Bhattacharya at the FREEDM Systems Center, NC State University. He has worked as an Electrical Design Engineer at Inficold in India from 2016-17 and as a Power Electronics Intern at Delphi Technologies (now a part of BorgWarner) in the United States in Summer 2019. His research focuses on the characterization and gate driver design of four-quadrant switches, as well as the topology evaluation, design, modeling, control, and hardware implementation of AC/DC converters for high-power (>5 kW) applications. At APEC 2023, he will present his research titled "Analysis and Characterization of Four-Quadrant Switches Based Commutation Cell," which includes a generalized overview of commutation schemes used for two and four quadrant switches (FQS) based on two-level commutation cells, comparison indices for FQS commutation schemes, and experimental results for the static and dynamic characteristics of 1.2 kV rated FQS implementations utilizing commercial SiC MOSFETs from four different manufacturers and novel monolithic SiC BiDirectional Field Effect Transistor (BiDFET).
