This digest presents a novel one-dimension space vector (NODSV) strategy with common-mode voltage attenuation and optimal line-to-line voltage harmonic spectrum for the multilevel cascaded inverter. The principle of the proposed method is analyzed in terms of common-mode voltage and line-to-line voltage harmonic spectrum. Compared with the conventional modulation method, the proposed NODSV makes a common-mode voltage limit to the range of Vdc/3 without sacrificing the line-to-line voltage harmonic spectrum. Furthermore, the proposed modulation method achieves power balance between each power semiconductor of the cascaded inverter and eliminates the dead-time effect. Simulation results validate the proposed method in three-level and five-level cascaded inverters.
