This digest introduces a new dc solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) using complementary commutation. It employs a capacitor-capacitor pair topology in a Π structure, called Π-type SSCB. It removes the voltage on passive components during the SSCB OFF-state, which enhances reliability. The proposed Π-type SSCB needs no charge/discharge circuits, and it solely depends on the dc system itself. It facilities high-power rating thyristors in SSCBs, making it one of the best solutions for medium-voltage. A 500V/50A prototype validates its practicality. It show a response speed of 42µs, where peak voltage on main and auxiliary thyristors reaches 581V and 500V, respectively.
