In this digest, a common source inductance (CSI) compensation technique is proposed for the multichip power modules and configurations with parallel switches to balance the dynamic current during the switching transient. With the proposed technique, the dynamic current among paralleled switches is evenly distributed even when the power loop inductance is not balanced. The improved current sharing is achieved by designing the parasitic inductance in the circuit layout. Because of the balanced dynamic current, the reliability of the circuit with the proposed layout can be significantly improved. The proposed technique is an easy-to-implement technique that leverages the natural feedback of the common source inductance. The technique proved to be effective in both simulation and experiment.
