The starting-up of the dual active bridge (DAB) converter may induce a large inductor current and endanger the safe operation of the system. In addition, the parameters of the controller at the end of the starting-up process should also be considered. This paper provides a novel starting-up method for DAB if the input voltage rises gradually. Using the given method, the starting-up process can be divided into three periods. The computer assistant simulation is used to determine the parameters of the controller. An experimental prototype is built. The inrush current can be reduced effectively using the given method.
