A 400 V-to-150V bidirectional seven-level flying-capacitor multi-level converter utilizing 100V GaN devices is proposed to perform differential-power processing in a multi-chemistry battery pack. The proposed differential power processing topology removes the need for a full power-processing converter in traditional multi-chemistry or hybrid energy-storage systems, which enables higher system energy density. Measurements with up to 800W output load in 300 V-to-100V bidirectional operation demonstrate effective d-loop operation of the converter with current-mode control.
