The most susceptible coil of the stator is the first one from the drive side since it experiences higher overvoltage than the others due to the voltage reflections. Therefore, an innovative and ultra-compact circuit which can be embedded inside the motor across the first coil of each phase is proposed. The proposed circuit effectively mitigate the surge overvoltage across the first coil, which can be applied for any type of motor-drive systems regardless of the cable length. The proposed method improves the overvoltage distribution across the coils, which can improve the reliability and power density of motor-drive systems.
