This paper analyzes a novel active filter connected in series to the primary-side HF AC-link of an IPT system, suitable for compact bidirectional wireless battery chargers for EV. The proposed circuit has the advantages of other single-stage topologies, such as avoiding main heavy passive elements like capacitor and inductor, increasing the power density, and achieving a low-profile converter design. However, this circuit also solves the main disadvantages of single-stage topologies, the transferred fluctuating power or PFC in the off-board system. A prototype with GaN transistors has been developed to validate the concept and to analyze the PFC performance.
