The big evolution in power electronics in the last 20 years has been produced due to the semiconductor industry, launching new technologies like GaN and SiC. These technologies allow engineers to achieve better power densities with the same topologies. One of the most popular topologies in the last years is the LLC topology. This topology allows engineers to increase the switching frequency, without increasing the losses in the semiconductor considerably. The power density of this topology is totally dependent of the magnetic design. However, the lack of evolution in magnetic technology, makes the magnetics the bottleneck of the power supply design. The goal of this session is to break down the current state of the art of LLC transformers design and propose new design method for LLC transformers.
