This talk will describe the design of a power tree for an automotive processor application. The Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) rating requires additional considerations beyond those of a non-ASIL design such as fault detection and prevention. Integrated Circuits (IC)s need to be chosen with regard to the amount of functional safety features and manufacturing documentation available. During development it is useful to build test fixtures into the board to facilitate fault testing of the power devices. A design will be used to illustrate the steps of design and test.
