Susan L. Samson, MD, PhD, FRCPC, FACE, joined Mayo Clinic in Florida in 2020 and is Chair of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Senior Associate Consultant Endocrinology and Neurological Surgery, specializing in Pituitary disorders. She is originally from Canada and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Canada in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Prior to this, she was the Medical Director of the Baylor St. Luke’s Pituitary Center and the Endocrinology Fellowship Director, having trained more than 60 Endocrinology fellows during her time as Associate Program Director and Program Director. She was a lead clinician for the NIH Undiagnosed Disease Network at Baylor College of Medicine. She has been awarded the multiple Endocrinology Fellowship teaching awards, the Fulbright and Jaworski L.L.P. Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching and Evaluation, the Rising Star Award, and Woman of Excellence Award during her time at Baylor College of Medicine. As an educator, Dr. Samson also has served nationally Council member and Secretary/Treasurer of the American Program Directors of Endocrinology and Metabolism (APDEM), task force member and co-author of the ACGME Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Milestones 2.0, and she is the Chair of the Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment Approval Committee for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the ABIM. She is currently on the Executive Committee of AACE (Secretary 2020-2021, Treasurer 2021-2022, Interim President Elect 2022, President Elect 2023). She has been active on numerous AACE national committees including as the Chair of Endocrine University and Chair of the AACE Annual Meeting (Los Angeles 2019).
Dr. Samson has served as site principal investigator as well as steering chair for clinical trials for patients with growth hormone deficiency, acromegaly and Cushing’s disease, and she was the chair of the international OPTIMAL trial for FDA approval for the first oral medication for acromegaly. She has been an invited speaker and national and international conferences on pituitary topics and is a co-author on consensus documents for diagnosis and management of pituitary disorders including for acromegaly, growth hormone deficiency, and Cushing’s syndrome. Dr. Samson is a member of the Editorial Boards of the journal Pituitary and Endocrine Today. She also is the co-editor of the book Pituitary Disorders Throughout the Lifecycle (Springer Nature 2022).
