Dr. Ekta Kapoor is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. She is an endocrinologist, menopause specialist, and a consultant in the divisions of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism and Nutrition and General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She also serves as the assistant director for the Mayo Clinic Center for Women's Health.
Dr. Kapoor received her medical degree from the University of Delhi in India. She then completed an internship in in Internal Medicine at the University of North Dakota in Fargo, followed by residency in Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She completed an Endocrinology fellowship, also at Mayo Clinic Rochester. She has been on staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester for over 10 years now.
Dr. Kapoor has a strong research focus, and has been a primary investigator on multiple studies involving hormone therapy in postmenopausal women and young women with surgical menopause. She leads several important research projects, including serving as the project lead for the clinical core of the Specialized Center of Research Excellence (SCORE) on sex differences from the Office of Research on Women’s Health and the National Institute on Aging. She is a co- investigator on a large NIH funded multi-center trial, Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Continuation study. She leads a benefactor-funded randomized placebo-controlled trial investigating the effect of estrogen dosing on cardiovascular disease risk parameters in women undergoing oophorectomy at a young age.
Dr. Kapoor is a national leader in women’s health. She has a strong publication record in the fields of menopause and hormone therapy. She serves on the editorial board of the journals Menopause and Maturitas, and she leads the practice pearl task force of the North American Menopause Society.
