Dr. Kindel is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is the clinical director of the bariatric surgery program at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin since 2018, focusing on program growth in areas of metabolic surgery, advanced heart failure, and adolescent bariatric surgery. Dr. Kindel went to Wilmington College, received her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed general surgery residency in 2013 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago followed by a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha in 2015. During residency, she obtained a PhD in pathobiology and molecular medicine from the University of Cincinnati studying the mechanisms for glucose homeostasis improvement after bariatric surgery. Her NIH-funded translational science lab studies the physiologic mechanisms for cardiovascular disease improvement after bariatric surgery, specifically heart failure with preserved ejection fraction and hypertension, mediated by the gastrointestinal tract and gut microbiome. Dr. Kindel was awarded the 2019 Young Researcher Award from SAGES and in 2020 was awarded the Ohio State University alumni early career achievement award.
