Dr. Smith directs the VCU Adult Sickle Cell Medical Home and serves as the Vice Chairman for Research in VCU’s Division of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Smith is best known as the Principal Investigator of the landmark Pain in Sickle Cell Epidemiology Study (PiSCES, R01 HL64122), the largest and most detailed adult cohort study of SCD pain.
