Our poster describes an educational program on Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders (PIDD) that was informed by the survey findings of 315 patients with primary immunodeficiency disorder (PIDD). Survey feedback was gathered and analyzed to determine gaps in care (as noted directly by patients) and then incorporated into the educational content. Developed by immunologists from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) and patient stakeholders to include those affiliated with the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF), the educational program included four activities: Module 1 (PIDD diagnosis); Module 2 (Telehealth in PIDD); and two simulation cases. The impact of the educational program was evaluated using mixed methods, the results of which were triangulated.
Learning Objectives:
Identify signs and symptoms of PIDD, including those that are commonly-missed
Examine a patient’s history, presentation and test results and choose communication strategies that facilitate patient disclosure of symptoms
Recognize the needs of patients with primary immunodeficiencies and identify strategies to optimize their care
Be familiar with existing patient resources that will help patients engage in their diagnosis and care
Identify the fundamental elements that are required for an effective telehealth consultation and the types of patient visits this is best suited for
Utilize a patient-centered approach to structuring and managing a telehealth consultation and conduct a telehealth visit with a diagnosed or suspected PIDD patient
Perform differential diagnosis, determine a unifying diagnosis and treatment plan for patient’s health issues and whether the patient should be referred to an A/I specialist
