Effective education evaluation practices can help educators and program managers ensure continuing education activities are achieving expected learning outcomes and demonstrating value. Evaluation is a critical component in the education process to demonstrate why education matters and contributes to improving care. This is even more important after our world has changed and continuing education providers help healthcare professionals and teams be prepared to adapt and care for patients. This interactive workshop provides an introduction to the fundamentals of education evaluation and how to apply those methods for activities. Participants will engage together to apply their new knowledge with hypothetical educational activities to practice identifying education outcomes and determining effectiveness, and then use findings for future planning and sharing results.
Objectives: After participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Distinguish between educational activity evaluation and research
2. Identify methods to evaluate activities using an established framework
3. Identify “pitfalls” which may undermine the use of evaluation findings
4. Describe a process for designing an activity evaluation
