Senior Director, Education Development American Association Physician Leaders
Session Description: As CE Professionals, we are sometimes confronted with incredibly difficult situations. Sometimes these involve physician or providers, sometimes these involve our executive leadership or colleagues, and sometimes these involve our vendors or other collaborators. We know that many have this same struggle; in a PubMed search for "communication skills," there were 28,705 published results in just the last year alone.
When you know it's up to you to have that difficult conversation, you can ultilize a number of communication princples to structure your approach and guide your words. During this session, participants will discuss difficult case studies, and practice applying communication principles. At the conclusion of this activity participants will feel more confident when they have pivotal conversations.
Example Case Studies:
Faculty member must be recused because of their financial relationship with an ineligible company
LMS vendor has not delivered on the contracted services
New staff member has been hired and you have to train them
Compliance issues have been discovered and you have to tell the CE Committee
Innovation: This session will draw upon the field of business and leadership to help CE professionals improve communications in their workplace. When we are able to address challenging people or situations in a forthright manner, we often resolve the problem. The implementation of guidelines during difficult conversations can lead to process improvements in the CE department.
