Session Description: This session will highlight the development of a core educational program designed to increase the capacity of trained CPD educators around the world. The Association for Medical Education in Europe has designed a digital, six-module course that will provide learners worldwide with the ability to develop and/or improve their knowledge, skills, attitude, and performance when working in CPD. The course was based on an exhaustive global needs assessment that evaluated the current state of CPD around the world, and the needs of the learner and educator communities. Global surveys, interviews, and research provided the initial foundation for the course. A faculty of eight content developers from around the world were recruited based on recommendations received during the needs assessment process, and were tasked with developing the content. All content was reviewed by an internal AMEE team led by a CPD profession with over 28 years' experience, primarily in global CPD. The content was then reviewed by 15+ (some reviews are still underway at the time of abstract submission) CPD experts from around the world (all six WHO regions were represented), and these reviewers also represented the breadth of CPD stakeholder organization types. The course was designed so that each of the six modules could be used in a stand-alone fashion, learners can also select several or all of the modules that fit their own needs. Participants in the session will be provided with an overview of the course, and asked to provide their comments and feedback based on their individual needs and opinions. These comments will be shared with the content developers, and could lead to subsequent edits or additions to the course. Participants will also be provided with a view of the next phases in the project, which are still under discussion at the time of abstract submission. This course was developed through a collaboration between AMEE and Pfizer, but Pfizer had no involvement in the selection of content developers, development of the content, or identification of global reviewers used.
Innovation: This course was developed to meet the needs of the global CPD community, and address the multiple and varied stakeholders involved in designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating CPD worldwide. The course is applicable regardless of where in the world learners work, and whether or not they have formal CME systems or accreditations.
