Session Description: As CEHP professionals, we have not often asked about the cost-effectiveness of our educational activities. We also have little understanding of the cost of our activities to the healthcare system as a whole. In this session, employ methods to calculate cost-effectiveness based on case scenarios with activity costs and outcomes. For instance, what does it cost to increase physician knowledge by 20%, or competence by 10%? What does it cost the healthcare system if 10% of learners change specific areas of performance?
Innovation: Once we calculate the baseline cost-effectiveness of our CEHP activities, we can work to make them even more cost-effective through improved learner targeting, enhanced instructional design, and more focused outcomes assessment. We can facilitate the greatest possible changes in knowledge, competence, performance, and patient outcomes with the least possible amount of financial investment.
