Howard Altschule has been a meteorologist for more than 27 years and is the Founder and CEO of Forensic Weather Consultants, one of the largest and most reliable weather expert firms in the country. He is the recipient of the coveted and internationally recognized “Certified Consulting Meteorologist” (C.C.M.) designation from the American Meteorological Society, which is the highest certification a consulting meteorologist can receive. Howard has consulted on more than 7,000 insurance claims and lawsuits, testified close to 100 times in various supreme, criminal and federal courts around the country, and has been deposed more than 85 times. Using official weather records, high-resolution Doppler radar data and new technology, Howard and his team are able to determine what the weather conditions were at any specific location and provides expert reports, affidavits, depositions, and live trial testimony.
Howard expertise includes work on a wide variety of incidents including Slip and Falls on Snow/Ice or Wet Interior Floors, Reported Hail Damage Claims, Hurricane Wind (or Wind v. Storm Surge) cases, MVA’s, High Wind/Wind-Created Opening Claims, Tornado Cases, Crane Collapses, Boating Accidents, Floods, and others.
Howard is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the Association of Certified Meteorologists. He was previously appointed to the New York State Governor’s Panel on Homeowner Insurance Coverage. He is an invited continuing education instructor and frequently speaks about forensic meteorology and the value it can bring to the insurance, legal and engineering industry. Howard has a 30+ year background as a volunteer firefighter reaching the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and President, he worked as a part-time deputy emergency manager with the Sheriff’s Office, founded and is the Chairman of the non-profit “Harky’s Heroes for Kids, Inc.” and created a scholarship in the Atmospheric Science department at the State University of New York.
