Dennis Bailey earned his undergraduate degree from Florida Atlantic University and his law degree from Nova Southeastern School of Law in 1985.
Bailey spent his first fourteen years as a trial attorney in the criminal courts, handling every type of case from misdemeanors to murder, both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. He later joined his father and brother in private civil practice, handling cases all around Florida from Key West to Pensacola, in State and Federal courts, both as plaintiff and defense attorney.
After working twenty-eight years as a trial lawyer, trying over 200 jury trials to verdict, Bailey was elected to the 17th Judicial Circuit bench in 2014. Over the next six years, he was the busiest trial judge in Broward, presiding over circuit court cases in Family Court, Civil Court, and Criminal Court, securing verdicts from over 100 juries, more than any other judge in the same time period. He also took on the responsibility of teaching other judges from around the state at Advanced Judicial Studies, in topics ranging from Ethics and Evidence to cutting-edge issues re Digital Evidence. He also continued to be a guest lecturer at various venues, from universities and law schools to bar associations and police academies. He also served as President of the North Broward Bar Association, member of the Weston Bar Association Board of Directors, and served as the judicial liaison on the boards of other local bar associations.
Bailey joined Merlin Law Group in 2021 and serves the firm as both General Counsel and Trial Attorney. On behalf of MLG, he has represented clients nationally, from California and Colorado to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and all over Florida, trying plaintiffs’ cases to jury verdicts and negotiating complex litigation matters to resolution.
