Resident Physician
University of California Irvine
Orange, California, United States
My name is Ann Nguyen Pham and I am a third year OBGYN resident at the University of California, Irvine. One of the things that fascinates me most about OBGYN is the extremely valuable and often diagnostic information that can be gleaned through ultrasound. It is an amazing tool that allows us to gain further insight into potential complications of a pregnancy so that patients can be appropriately counseled. The information from ultrasound also guides our surveillance of high-risk pregnancies antenatally so that interventions can be enacted in a timely manner. Ultrasound findings are also helpful when notifying and mobilizing a multidisciplinary team to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes. The portability of ultrasound and its ability to be utilized at the bedside in real-time with a patient are just a few of the features that I value most. I am therefore always thrilled to learn more about ultrasound and the different ways it can be employed in the care of patients.
