Mea Janelle Sarmiento Babiera is a 35 year-old, Filipino doctor born on February 27, 1988. She was raised and educated in Pasay City, Philippines. Mea's academic journey started in Pasay City Academy, where she graduated as Class Valedictorian and received the Most Outstanding Academic Award in 2001. She then moved up to high school, where she again graduated as Valedictorian, and was awarded the Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Most Outstanding Academic Award in 2005. Mea's academic excellence continued when she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Adventist University of the Philippines in 2010, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
Driven to continue her pursuit of knowledge in medicine, Mea went to Southwestern University- Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine in Cebu City, where she received her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2015. She was awarded the Dean's Medallion of Excellence Award and Recognition for consistently being a Dean's Lister.
Mea's residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology was completed in Manila Doctors Hospital, where she became the Chief Resident. During her residency, she received several special awards for academic excellence and leadership, including the Nationwide CREED Resident In-Service Examination Topnotcher in 2018 and 2020.
Apart from her academic achievements, Mea has also excelled in various extracurricular activities. She was a member of the Adventist University of the Philippines Ambassadors Chorale Arts Society, where she won the Choir of the World Grand Champions Pavarotti Trophy in the UK in 2011. In addition, she won various awards in singing contests and national competitions.
This is the first research after residency training which was selected internationally. Locally, the same research won first place in the Midyear Philippine Obstetrical Gynecological Society Bioscience Residents Research Contest 2022.
In all her works, Mea brings back all the glory to God.
