Charlotte Henningsen, MS, RT(R), RDMS, FSDMS, FAIUM, is adjunct faculty at AdventHealth University in Orlando, FL. She began her ultrasound career in the early 80s while in the military and has been employed by the University for over 30 years, during which time she developed and taught entry-level sonography programs and point of care imaging to graduate students. Additionally, she provided point of care ultrasound education to multiple residencies at AdventHealth. She has chaired the Sonography Department and was appointed Director of the Center for Advanced Ultrasound Education. She developed expertise in teaching methods and assisted in the creation of the New Faculty Institute at the University, serving in an additional role of Director of Faculty Development for 4 years. Charlotte transitioned to an adjunct faculty position in 2022 directing her primary focus on point of care education.
Charlotte has published journal articles, textbook chapters, and authored a textbook on ultrasound. She has lectured extensively on a variety of ultrasound and teaching and learning topics. She chaired a task force that developed the first National Education Curriculum for sonography. Charlotte has been recognized through receipt of the SDMS Distinguished Educator Award in 2012 and the 2017 AIUM Distinguished Sonographer Award. She served as 2nd Vice President of the AIUM and President of the SDMS. She recently completed her role as co-chair of the task force for the development of the WRMSD Practice Principles. Her professional service continues in multiple areas including as reviewer and CME Test Editor for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine.
