Bernard Okai is a second-year medical student at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. His research focuses on the clinical outcomes of patients who underwent surgery for metastatic epidural spinal cord compression or tumor-related mechanical instability. Other research areas include bioinformatics in assessing treatment efficacies and characterizing tumor genomics. He received his BS in Biochemistry from SUNY College at Brockport, New York. In addition to her research, he is the president of the Research Networking Club at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He serves as a liaison between students and the Office of Medical Education Deans to make research more accessible. Last year, he participated in a Summer Research Experience in Oncology Symposium at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center where he won the “Outstanding Scientific Talk Award” for his presentation on “Mutation-based quantitative biomarker for objective measurement of treatment efficacy in Actinic Keratosis”. In his free time, Bernard enjoys cooking different Ghanaian/African dishes and American recipes.
