Joseph Withrow, MD is a PGY-5 neurosurgery resident at UTHealth Houston. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the baseball team. He went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with Honors from the University of Georgia Morehead Honors College in 2014 with a B.S. in biology and a minor in chemistry. Following college, he completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He graduated from medical school in 2018 with a 4.0 GPA, earning him recognition in the Dean's Clinical Honor Society. Additionally, he earned AOA distinction and was elected president of the local chapter. During residency he has developed an interest in spinal surgery and is spending his fifth year profiling cerebrospinal fluid from patients with acute spinal cord injury under the guidance of his mentors Dr. John Quinn and Dr. John Caridi. He plans to complete an enfolded fellowship focusing on adult spinal deformity during his seventh year. He enjoys teaching and mentoring junior residents and plans to complete a post-graduate fellowship after residency and pursue a career in academic medicine. During his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife Kelly and their daughter who they welcomed to their family in July. Additionally, he enjoys taking their labrador retriever for walks, watching UGA football games, golfing, traveling, running, and trying new restaurants with friends.
