Dr. Erik Hayman practices general neurosurgery as an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida. Dr. Hayman's medical training began at the University of Colorado medical school, where he received his MD degree; additionally, he pursued a year of dedicated tumor immunology research as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellow in the Brentjens lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Following medical school, he completed his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Prior to joining the USF faculty, he undertook a year long combined orthopedic/neurological surgery fellowship in complex spine surgery at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute. As an academic surgeon, he pursues a number of research interests, with multiple publications and book chapters related to brain injury and its mechanisms, spine trauma, and pelvic fixation, in addition to active participation in clinical trials of motion preserving devices. His clinical focuses are adult deformity, complex revision, trauma, and motion sparing surgery.
