Neil Nazar Al-Saidi BSc is a 3rd year Medical Student at Central Michigan University College of Medicine - involved in Neurological & Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical Linguistics, Anesthesia and Humanitarian Health in affiliation with: Inspired Spine Institute, University of Utah Orthopaedic Surgery Department, University of Michigan Medical Arabic, Beijing's Tiantan Hospital of Neurological & Orthopaedic Surgery, Detroit Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology, Katranji Hand Surgery Center. He is a published author in the Journal of Arthroplasty - coauthorship and the Global Spine Journal - first authorship. He is also under review for publication with the Journal of Neurosurgery and The Spine Journal. Tentatively, he has 48 research experiences comprising 28 projects. His authorship entitlements include: 5 first & corresponding, 13 first, and 8 coauthor. His conference appearances include 14 poster presentations, 2 podium presentations, and 4 oral presentations. In the future, he is keen on exploring the potential of bionic prosthetics through neuromuscular linkage.
His experience being raised in a rural community of Michigan has forged his appreciation of mentorship & opportunities as a vital student resource. His involvement across multiple institutions has expanded his horizon through different modes of educational curriculums. It has catalyzed his passion for inspiring students through contributing to medical education in which he is the Founder of the Inspired Spine Student Research Institute, Cofounder of American Medical Muslim Student Association Research Course, Cocreator & Instructor of the novel Medical Arabic Course at University of Michigan Medicine, Cohost & Moderator on Dr. Hamid Abbasi's biweekly Essence of Medicine Surgical Youtube Channel & CTMRI Spinal Imaging Course.
During his first 3 years of medical school he has graciously been awarded a formal invitation & recognition to the El-Hibri Foundation private peace ceremony at Henry Ford’s Aviation Museum for his service in community outreach. A sponsorship for his role as a Medical Arabic Curriculum Instructor by the University of Michigan Department of Surgery for the Global Surgical Innovation National Conference, Going Above and Beyond Award from the Chief Medical Officer of the Inspired Spine Institute, a Top 10 Research Presenter Award by CMU Health and honorable nomination as this year's Master of Ceremonies Speaker at the National Iraqi American Union 4th Annual Gala hosting over 700 attendees. His journey is currently being published as a spotlight interview in the Free Opinion Press Arab American Newspaper.
He enjoys outdoor adventures and has demonstrated remarkable prowess as a 3rd degree blackbelt by obtaining 1st and 2nd place titles in the 2016 State of Michigan American Taekwondo Association championships & 4th place in the 2017 Midwest District Championship.
His passion is also driven by his heritage as the first born American of his Iraqi Arab & Kurdish family, understanding the fleeting security that life portends. He aspires to restore structure and function through humanitarian endeavors to those affected by conflict and terror in the Middle East. Through the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary team, he hopes to not only heal the physical wounds but also instill hope and confidence in these communities.
