Owen P. Leary B.S. is an M.D./Ph.D. student at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and serves as Research Program Administrator for Clinical Trials and Laboratory Operations at Brown Neurosurgery / Rhode Island Hospital Dept. of Neurosurgery.
Enrolled in the Brown University Program in Liberal Medical Education, Owen was born and raised in Rhode Island and fostered a keen clinical and research interest in brain and spine sciences during his time at Brown. Owen is currently pursuing graduate study in Pathobiology at the Laboratory of Cancer Epigenetics & Plasticity under P.I. Dr. Nikos Tapinos, M.D., Ph.D. His thesis project is investigating non-coding RNA signatures of glioblastoma based on miRNA expression in peripheral blood samples, for which he has recieved funding as a student investigator from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) through the Brown University Basic & Translational Research (BTR) program. Working under esteemed faculty at Brown Neurosurgery, Owen's clinical research has focused on application of novel technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the central nervous system and spinal column, including traumatic brain injury, brain and spinal column tumors, and cerebrospinal fluid disorders of the brain and spine. He is also a clinical researcher in the Spine Surgery Outcomes Laboratory research group at Brown Neurosurgery and has particular interest in optimization of surgical outcomes following elective and emergent spine surgery.
