Research Fellow
Hospital for Special Surgery, NY, US
Omri Maayan is a Research Fellow at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a fourth-year medical student at Weill Cornell Medical College. He received a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, where he pursued a major in Biological Sciences and minors in Business and Policy Analysis. Omri, a native Hebrew speaker from Israel, immigrated to the United States with his family and was raised in New York. His passion for research began as early as high school, where he conducted a project investigating the impact of phenolic compounds on hyperlipidemia, which earned first place in the New York State Science and Engineering Fair. In college, Omri was director of the Cornell University Undergraduate Research Board and a research assistant in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Along with his study of neural target differentiation at Cornell, he spent his summers at New York Medical College and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where he investigated the topics of metabolic syndrome and glomerular signal transduction, respectively. Omri’s research pursuits in medical school range from evaluating predictors of meningioma recurrence to minimally invasive treatments for degenerative spine conditions. Likewise, as the Director of Clinical Operations for the Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights, he is also keen on exploring biopsychosocial migration stressors faced by marginalized individuals seeking asylum in the United States. Omri plans to pursue an orthopedic surgery residency to fulfill his dream of helping patients and translating research to tangible medical practice.
