Todd J. Albert, M.D. was Surgeon-in-Chief at the Hospital for Special Surgery from 2014 to 2019 and is currently Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus. Formerly Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and President of The Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, he is renowned as one of the nation’s leading orthopedic surgeons specializing in cervical spine conditions.
Dr. Albert graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, received his doctor of medicine degree from the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine, completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was named outstanding chief resident, and performed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the Minnesota Spine Center.
He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and serves on the boards of several scholarly journals. He is Past President I of the Scoliosis Research Society, Past President of the Cervical Spine Research Society, Past Chair of The International Meeting of Advanced Spinal Techniques (IMAST) for the Scoliosis Research Society, and Past Chair of Development for the American Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Albert has published over 400 scientific articles, authored over 80 book chapters, presented his research both nationally and internationally, and served as chairman at numerous courses. He has published seven textbooks on Spinal Surgery.
