Amer F. Samdani, MD is Clinical Professor (Adjunct) of Neurological Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, and Chief of Surgery at Shriners Children’s – Philadelphia. Dr. Samdani is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree with honors at Columbia University, New York, NY, and earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore, MD. He completed neurosurgery residency training at Johns Hopkins and a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Samdani’s academic honors include membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Alfred Blalock Research Award for Residents at Johns Hopkins, and outstanding poster at the Congress of Neurosurgeons. He was awarded the Edgar Dawson Traveling Fellowship by the Scoliosis Research Society and the Scoliosis Research Society Traveling Fellowship. Dr. Samdani has coedited 3 textbooks and has coauthored 49 book chapters and 270 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Harms Study Group and the Children’s Spine Study Group. He leads the Shrine Spine Surgeons group, consisting of spine surgeons from Shriners Hospitals researching various topics in the treatment of spine deformity. Dr. Samdani’s clinical interests include complex pediatric spine deformity (particularly fusionless treatments for scoliosis) and neuromuscular disease.
