Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery
Karen M. Kim, M.D. is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon and Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed a general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. She obtained specialty fellowship training in aortic surgery, also at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2015 and has a clinical practice that encompasses adult cardiac surgery, with special focus on the open surgical and endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic disease and transcatheter treatment of structural heart disease. Dr. Kim actively participates in data analysis and quality improvement at the institutional, state, and national level through her roles as the University of Michigan's surgeon champion on The Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons Quality Collaborative oversight committee and as a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Quality Measurement and Aortic Database taskforces.
