Joon Jeong is Professor at Yonsei University College of Medicine and works at the Department of Breast Surgery at Gangnam Severance Hospital. His research interest is metastatic breast cancer, but while working as a professor of breast surgery, he is active in all fields including cancer prevention, surgery, and neo/adjuvant cancer treatment. He received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Medicine from Yonsei University and completed the whole course of post-doctoral program at MD Anderson Cancer Center. In 2010, he received training course and conducted research about circulating tumor cells at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He served as the academic director for the Korean Breast Cancer Society from 2013 to 2015 and has served as the chairperson for the Korean Breast Cancer Society from 2021. He is playing a pioneering role in the breast cancer field such as introducing and implementing Intra-operative radiotherapy (IORT) for the first time in Korea. He published widely on the subjects of breast cancer treatment, and surgical oncology in a number of leading academic journals and serves as a principal researcher for several clinical studies and national research projects. He is known as one of the best breast surgeons in Korea and was awarded the “Order of Service Merit” in 2019 for his efforts in breast cancer area.
