Sam grew up in Denver, Colorado. He attended Brandeis University in Waltham, MA where he first worked as an EMT-Basic. He spent two years after medical school first vlunteeering in a local hospital on the Galapagos Islands and then at the National Institutes of Health focusing on pheochromocytoma research in the NICHD with Dr Karel Pacak and obesity research at the NIDDK with Dr Giovanni Cizza.
Sam then completed his medical school training at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY and his general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. Between his second and third clinical year, he spent two years in the lab doing research focusing on tissue-engineering with Dr Tracy Grikscheit at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He is now in his endocrine surgery fellowship at North Shore University Health System-John Stroger Hospital of Cook County with Dr David J Winchester.
Sam's hobbies include golfing, skiing, cooking, and telling Dad jokes with his wife and two kids.
