Associate Attending Surgeon

Dr Wei is an Associate Attending Surgeon on the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and Associate Professor of Surgery at Weill-Cornell School of Medicine in New York. She serves as the Co-director of Surgical Initiatives at the David M Rubenstein Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research at MSKCC and the Associate Program Director of the MSKCC Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship. Prior to joining MSKCC in 2019, she was an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University Health Network at the University of Toronto, Canada.
She has a high volume academic clinical practice in HPB oncology in liver and pancreas surgery, including advanced minimally invasive and robotic HPB surgery. Her active research program encompasses: (1) clinical research into management approaches for pancreatic cancer and hepatic metastases with a special interest in quality of life measures; as well as (2) Health Services Research and Health Policy focused on quality improvement strategies for cancer surgery. She has previously held research advisory roles with the Canadian Cancer Trials Group and the National Cancer Institute Pancreatic Task Force.
In addition, Dr. Wei has expertise in system level health policy, having served as a health policy advisor to the Ontario Government in the role of Lead for Quality and Knowledge Transfer for the Surgical Oncology Program at Cancer Care Ontario (2014-2018). This is the provincial organization that oversees delivery of all cancer services in Ontario, Canada
Dr Wei has held major leadership roles in Canada and the American Surgical Societies. She is a Governor at the American Board of Surgery and Vice-Chair of the Health, Policy Work group. She has previously served as the President of the Ontario Association of General Surgeons, Vice-Chair of the General Surgery Section, Ontario Medical Association and a Board member of the Canadian Association of General Surgeons.
